Reasons to Ignore the Doubters and Follow Your Dreams

Everyone daydreams at times. Often these dreams are about an adventure you would like to undertake, and you possibly imagine yourself in some exotic places. How many people actually follow those dreams? Fewer than you may think. There can be all sorts of reasons why dreams never turn into reality, but one of the most common is that other people are so negative about it, and that puts dreamers off.
This is said to be either because they don’t do it’ brigade are jealous of someone else doing something they would love but do have the courage, or they have genuine concerns about what you are aiming to do. Most people will be positive, but it only takes one or two looks of what on earth are you doing to plant seeds of doubt in your mind.
It’s Your Life
This is the main thing you need to remember when you are planning to travel to far-off places. It’s your life and you only have one of them. If you do not follow that dream you will regret it later in life, and even delaying it can cause regrets about why didn’t you do it sooner. There are no rules in life that say you cannot do what you want, so make the most of what time you have and follow your dreams.
The only person that needs to say ‘Yes, I am going to do this’ is you.
Your Dream Will Disappear
Following your dream will make you feel that you have accomplished something and give you so much more happiness in your life. Don’t do it and eventually, that dream will disappear as other things take over your life. In fact, once you have followed one dream you may find that bigger dreams materialize. Instead of your aspirations disappearing you could be starting out on even better adventures.
Keep your dreams alive. Plan for them and actually do them rather than letting them become no more than a memory.
Finances are Not the Be All and End All
Finances are a consideration for anyone wanting to travel, but before you can save some money you need to clear yourself of debt. You need to do this in the shortest time possible, and if those debts include credit cards you need to think about having a loan to clear them. Loans are fixed payments, so make it easier for you to budget and they are for a set term so you will see the end of them. There are even bad credit loans, and none of these will drag on as long as credit cards do with their very high-interest rate.
You will not need a fortune to start your travels, as often you can find work to help you through, and other parts of the world, particularly Asia, are a lot cheaper to live in than the US. For instance, on islands such as Bali and Java, you can have a meal of their traditional fare for the equivalent of about $2 in an all you can eat buffet style.
It Will Make You Stronger
Apart from having experiences, you will never have at home, there is something good about proving the doubters wrong. Show them that you can follow your dream and you will mentally feel a much stronger person, and that can only be a bonus on your travels.
They Are Part Of You

Your dreams, just like your skills or faults, are part of the person you are. Turn those dreams into a real situation and that will define you even more. Take up the challenge and it will help to make you a more interesting person as people will want to hear about your adventures.
Seeing how other peoples live, how they earn their living, what their day-to-day problems are and how they entertain themselves could change the person you are, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Once you have followed your dream, instead of that being part of you, the experiences you have had will be part of defining your character.
Don’t Follow The Pack
There are so many things in life that people just do the same as everyone else, fashions in clothes, music, films, and books are just a few examples. You do not have to follow the pack or stick to an office job that is slowly driving you mental. Put it all behind you and follow that dream.
Sometimes, things that are familiar make us feel safe. Enjoying new experiences can be a little frightening but overcoming those fears will make you feel really good. You will make mistakes along the way but you should not let that be one of your fears. Mistakes can happen in everyday life even if you were in a 9 to 5 job. You just need to learn from them and carry on.
You Will Lose Contact With Family And Friends
This was probably a genuine concern 20 years ago, but not anymore. With smartphones and tablets and the Internet available worldwide, you do not have to lose contact with anyone. You can video call them and show them the wonderful surroundings you are in, or that new type of food you are trying. They can almost join in your adventures with you and there is no doubt they will look forward to your calls.
Social media is a great way of keeping in touch too. You can post where you are and what you are doing every day if you want, and you may just be surprised by how quickly and how many new followers you connect with. It can also be a way to connect and meet up with other people who are following a similar dream to you.
Other Countries Are Dangerous
No one would dispute that there are some countries that should be avoided because they are war zones. However, there are more countries that are peaceful. You will also find that the natives of some of them are very friendly and welcoming, the inhabitants of South East Asia being the friendliest in the world according to reports.
In some of the outlying villages, you will be treated like a celebrity. They do not very often see Americans and will want photographs taken with you to hang on their walls.
Some of these countries have experienced dreadful natural disasters, but have rebuilt themselves and improved their infrastructure at the same time.
Failure Is Scary
If you spend your whole life worrying about failing you might as well not bother to get out of bed in the mornings. Failure is part of life and happens to everyone sometimes. You just have to pick yourself up and get on with it, even if it means starting all over again.
You will learn from failure, and then when you do achieve your aim, will feel really proud that you have done it. Unexpected happenings can be exciting as well as scary and will stay in your memory forever.
Be A Doer Not A Doubter

Being a doer rather than a doubter will give you the power to create and change your own environment, and what you do with your life. Doubters will spend their whole life thinking they cannot achieve anything. It is doers that change things and influence others, some of them, having altered the world.
Be An Inspiration
Being courageous enough to follow your dream can inspire others to do the same. Keep a journal or write a blog as your travels progress. When others read about the trials, tribulations, successes and great enjoyment you are experiencing, it can make other dreamers follow your example.
A blog could also be a way of your earning some dollars while you are traveling. Get enough followers and advertisers will want to use your site to promote their brands and will pay you for letting them do so. Include images and videos to give a more striking and appealing appearance to your blog.
Don’t Give Up On Your Dream
Don’t let your dream fade away. Giving up on it will be a lifelong regret, and there are enough of those without not following your dream to see the world. Plan it and for it and make sure that you are fully prepared to give you more chances of being successful the first time. Never be afraid to ask for help along the way, as in most countries people will gladly assist you is they can.
Make sure you see the parts of the countries where life is really lived in the traditional ways. The biggest cities might be the largest attractions, but they are not always the cheapest and are often very commercialized. Find out what it is really like to live in a mountain village or on a tea plantation by visiting them, and who knows, you may love it so much that you end up staying longer than you intended.
That is one of the beauties of traveling. You can do it at your own pace, see the places you want to see and stay wherever you want for as long as you want. It is your decision, no one else’s.
